Gregg Rutter
Gregg Rutter lives in Deerwood, Minnesota. A life-long photographer, he recently had an exhibition at Alliance Française Minneapolis-St. Paul with photographs of Paris. He is particularly interested in architecture, street, and landscape photography. More than anything, Gregg is a curious and imaginative artist, seeking to capture an essence of place and emotion with light and composition. He continues to explore his creative expression through photography, letterpress printing, painting, and writing. His photographs can be seen on his Instagram page @greggrutter and on his photography website https://greggrutterphotography.myportfolio.com
Sacred Heart Church, Eau Claire WI - Built in 1928 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, it’s a beautiful example of Neo-Romanesque architecture. Whenever Gregg visits a place, he is on the lookout for interesting architecture. This image of the Sacred Heart Church, high on a hill in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, was such a spot. He was in Eau Claire to see Bob Dylan on his Rough and Rowdy Ways Tour and scoped this church out before the show. The next morning, he got up early and found the sky and sun perfectly illuminating the building.
Mark Tegtmeier
Mark Tegtmeier is a Connecticut photographer who has been shooting a wide variety of subjects over the years, including landscapes, cityscapes, flowers, portraits and events. Since retiring from his career as a psychiatric nurse, Mark has been involved in his local camera club, with monthly competitions, and he has shown his work locally over the years in numerous juried and individual gallery shows. You can find his work on Facebook pages @ https://www.facebook.com/mark.tegtmeier.5/ or https://www.facebook.com/marktegtmeierphotography/
Zoy Tsai
Zoy Tsai claims that he is just an ordinary tourist. When Zoy visits a beautiful place, he is always exited to capture beautiful things in the moment. Zoy is a movie lover and very interested in photo color grading, which often makes an ordinary photo into a dramatic movie scene. That is 'always my best love' says Zoy. You can view Zoy's images on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/zoy.tsai# and on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/zoyvegebug/
Zoy says this image was shot on his iPhone (not so high quality). It was taken when he traveled to Tokyo, Japan. When Zoy looks to the end of this street, he thought the light and the word on the sign was really pretty. He thought if someone walked through the crosswalk that would be fun. When someone went through the intersection, he just kept pressing the shutter on his iPhone. Zoy says he found this to be a very dramatic movie-like scene.
Matt Mathews
Matt Mathews has been practicing fine art photography for over twenty years. He grew up not far from Yosemite and Big Sur, and from childhood he always loved the black and white photography of Ansel Adams. He now works in both black and white and color photography. He believes that photographs are not merely duplications of reality but are instead creative interpretations of it and that the key to seeing is to learn to relax our expectations so that reality breaks through in fresh, provocative ways. His photographs have been published and exhibited in the United States and abroad. Matt lives in Memphis, Tennessee where he is a semi-retired college professor. More of his photographs may be found at https://mmathews.zenfolio.com/
When Matt photographs architecture, he is often interested in the ways that people and buildings interact in the urban world. The presence of the window washer in this photo is a fine example of this. Matt was curious about how he maneuvered the ladder and ascended it to wash the windows while the pedestrians below just kept moving around him. When Matt first noticed him, his ladder was positioned directly in front of the entrance, which cluttered the composition. So, sensing that the building and its details made an effective stage, Matt waited to see how his character would reposition himself in a more visually compelling way. Of course, he also had to wait for a pause in the busy traffic on Michigan Avenue in Chicago! It took awhile for all those pieces to fall into place for this one.
Kay Gibbons Buckwell
Kay Gibbons Buckwell, a fine-art photographer from Geelong, Australia, took up photography around the age of fifteen. Although a thirty-year career as a professional singer-songwriter ensued, in her spare time she completed courses in photography, professional writing and editing, and interior design. Her exploration of colour psychology, painting, metaphysics, and mindfulness, combined with a deep respect and love for nature, have all converged to create a unique perspective which shines through her work. Her images remind us to see beauty in the detail, find gratitude in the ordinary, and feel the rhythm of life in the everyday. Kay's work can be viewed on Instagram kay.gibbons.buckwell and website https://www.kaygibbonsbuckwell.com/
With an eye for bold graphic-type minimalistic compositions, Kay spied this simple-yet-sweet moment while on vacation in Australia’s second-oldest settlement, Hobart, Tasmania. Established in the late 1840s, the Georgian cottage resides among sixteen other cottages surrounding a village green, in the historical “Arthur Circus”, Battery Point.
David Kawchak
David Kawchak has been doing photography since he was 16 years old when his father gifted him a 35mm camera. Growing up in a steel industry town in western Pa and attending art school in Pittsburgh PA, David has always felt connected to the gritty city feel of street life. After graduating, David worked around the country as an exhibit designer in the trade show exhibit industry where he designed and supervised projects of large scaled trade show exhibits for Fortune 500 companies and work for celebrities and musicians. On his days off to relax he always did photography, which later in life transformed into a full time pursuit of doing real estate, AirBnb. and landscape and street photography. His work can be viewed on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/artandphotoghraphy/ and his website at arttography.zenfoliosite.com
David says this vertical shot is from his hometown in Johnstown PA, which was a bustling steel industry town when growing up. He recently went home and documented a lot of things which, sad to say, was a far cry of what it used to be. It's just an old building that has somehow survived demolition due to structural integrity.
